...Amazonian half-pint cakes are pinning.

I peaked in yesterday, and was pretty surprised to see this little guy literally bristling with pins. Most matured by today and yielded surprisingly few aborts despite a visible brush with verticillium.

Not a clone - straight from an old Amazonian spore print.

The cake's been harvested & dunked and the shrooms are drying. I'd like to make a clone before all is said and done though.

That's a beautiful cake, prozac. Amazon is a darn fine strain and always puts out some beauties. It was my first strain and is still one of my favorites. Good job.

Thanks for the compliments, all.

And yes, BigBoomer, the avatar is from an edited still frame of F&L in Las Vegas.

Well, I don't really know EXACTLY what factors contributed to this flush either, but I can at least give some statistics.

The basic facts are that this cake was given about 1 week longer to colonize than most others and colonized very well, such that it was covered with more solid, dense mycelium when birthed. I was also pleased with the water content of substrate that went into this cake and several others - it was moist, but not even vaguely soupy or gummy looking on the bottom.

It has been maintained in a large rubbermaid terrarium with ultrasonic/perlite humidification and RH levels ranging from 80-100% respectively throughout the day. The humidifier turns on for one hour, every 8 hours, bringing the RH up to 100% for about 45 minutes. The RH then gradually goes back down to approximately 80% over the course of 8 hours. The terrarium is right in front of a covered window, so it gets about 12 hours of filtered sunlight a day.

This cake is on the sunny side of the terrarium, and it's also exposed to a more direct blast from the humidifier when its on, keeping the verm on top wet and frequently forming small water droplets on the cake itself. I understand the droplets on the cake aren't necessarily a good thing, but many of the pins on this one actually formed right around the droplets and grew out from there. This is probably one of the reasons for the vert though.

Most of the cakes on the same side of the aquarium have shown similar growth patterns and dense pinsets, but none so dense as this. On the other side of the terrarium, the cakes seem to be more prone to producing a few good, solid boomers than lots of little shrooms.

Still, the total yield seems to end up about the same on either side, since one decent boomer is worth about 15 of these little guys.

FOAF notices heavier pin sets on cakes that are left incubating past 100%

WOW!! My best cakes so far look skimpy compared to that!! You say that you allowed it to colonize longer... So when did you start exposing your cakes to light, and for how long?

Those are absolutely beautiful.
