...and so it begins

A community garden plot
A basement room
A deck for containers
And a postage stamp size yard with 3 fruit trees, some blackberries and a 6 ft tall rubbarb plant I named Audrey III

I'm honored to be able to log a different spin on the back to the land forum going towards the urban lifestyle.
I'm honored to be able to add my log to our database with the likes of
Wilde's vegie garden
Juthro's Alaskan Garden
Fungi's containers
And Turkey's homestead

Late to the game in posting and some of my planting but hey when life throws you a curve and that house in a rural city with a large backyard garden turns into urban blyted historic neighborhood that has been the up-n-coming transitional neighborhood for the past 20 years...but just never made it...

you roll one up...light it up....smoke that shit (plant a few seeds) and switch gears!

thanks TR!

I'm very happy with my starts.

I started them all from seed except some of the basil I will plant with the tomato I took from cuttings.

But other then about a month late they are good size. I need to get a oscillating fan I. The seed(ling) corner of the room to strengthen the stems.

I am using a t5 2ft -2 bulb unit right now with another 2ft - bulb hanging next to it to extend re coverage. I'm going to upgrade soon to a 2 ft 4 bulb unit so it will completely cover a 10/20 flat.

6 tomatoes
Lost the name tags in a recent move
Destined for 5 gallon DWC/Bubbleponics set up
image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Added a cap full of Aqua shield. Suppose to assist in root growth. Just composted chicken poop

Place a bubble stone in there with some water and put it under light to veg and get some roots before put into 5 gal buckets.

Planted the pofato leaf one in my community plot. The other may need to go to the compost as I'm running out of time and space.

7 day change the water and added capful of Aqua Shield again.

The roots are developing fast. Seems faster then the last time I tried this. Did not know much about this type of growing. Once I saw roots I put them in the large net pot lids in hydroton. It seemed to take weeks for roots to develops.

Corn grits / meal / gluten as natural weed preventative ?

Looking on line for natural weed control for the raised bed.

See online that corn gluten/grits/meal can be spread to help prevent weeds.

Anyone tried this?

I don't know about grits, but putting down weed cloth and mulching over the top works fairly well. What ever weeds do take in your bed are then easy to pull, as they are only rooted shallowly due to not being able to penetrate the weed cloth.

That will be the plan for next year.

I was on a tight schedule this year and getting the planting In So late cause I moved. It was also way over run with adult weeds. I sprayed all of it down with a vinegar / borax solution 3 cause in a row with 90• weather and it only yellowed some of the grasses. From reading I was not expecting stalks to fall but was hoping for more.

There is a huge pile of wood chips and large amount of straw bales that had been donated that I want to use for my next mycology venture...cough, cough...or mulch I mean. But I'm going to be starting some late summer roots and fall greens from seed in the bed.

I also bought about seeding the head heavily with nettle and borage after what is planted now has run its course and let that fend for its self for the winter and till it into the ground in the spring.

The soil was created locally. FULL of big fat worms pretty much every sq foot of the bed I dug up hAd 3 or 4 worms.
