Probably just an intolerance.  I have been getting informed that few people make strong enough stomach acid to break the long chain molecule that is gluten.  And these molecules go through the stomach and damage the villi of the small intestine.  I know my stomach acid is not up to the job, and I have been taking betaine HCl and pepsin capsules for the past several years.  I cut down on glutens quite a while back, but probably too late.  When you are young, you can tolerate more of all kinds of foods that are problems later on.

I started taking the HCl after reading a book called, Why Stomach Acid Is Good For You, by Jonathan Wright. When I started taking it, my chronic heartburn went away.  The medical industry gives you exactly what makes heartburn happen by only treating the symptoms.

So yeah, I take a lot of acid.  Six ten grain caps with every meal.  Real acid head, I am.

Juth, whatever comes is perfect.  I could not know more peace than this present moment, which goes on forever.  It is my wish that everyone know the same, and they will, eventually.  But why wait?

I will either have my body's strength return, or not.  I choose to remain at peace.  If I think about all the plans I make, I can muster a smile and a shrug.  WTF, eh?

I don't disagree my friend, I think that is a healthy state of mind. As it does no good to waste your time and efforts on the things you cant change, it is much better to enjoy the moment and focus on the things you can influence.

BUT, I still wish it my brother.

I appreciate that, Juth my friend.  We do care.  Better for us if out of empathy than attachment, eh?  Trust me, I ain't giving up.

Interesting you mention acid as the cure for heartburn.  I used to take all that prylosec, zantac, tums. etc. to cure the "heartburn" and Gerd (Nothing like being thrust awake because you just asperated somach acid plus that taco you had earlier that night - oh yeah that is a lot of fun!).

Then after cutting out a lot of that stuff, (especially grease) and using only baking soda for heartburn, and supplimenting with unpasturized vinigar (with the mother) these symptoms stopped, and no longer taking pharmecuticals.  Hmmm.

Still, I really love bread....and pizza...and fried chicken.  Dang.

Anyway Alder - sending you good virbrations, and still working on finding a way to send you all my extra weight :)

SPS, there are many health issues associated with too high a PH in the stomach, of which, heartburn and GERD are symptoms.  You can, as you have, eliminate the worst of the symptoms by how and what you eat, but if your fasting level PH ain't down around 2, you will not be getting nourishment from all kinds of food.  Of all things, even macular degeneration is one of the diseases that can show up in response to this partial nourishment.

Why Stomach Acid Is Good For You, by Jonathan Wright, is highly recommended.

Dang, I didn't think of that. Hell you figure it out, and this fat ass could spare 40 or 50lbs for our skinny friend, lol.

No really, its hard for me not to pack on the lbs when I am at sea for 3 month tour. And once those extra pounds are there, they like to stay.

Then the problem compounds when I rinse, and repeat.
