and then there's this guy who's making magic with just the slightest bit of common sense, and a few bucks

I am much much to humble to brag on myself like that
Except, of course, for my Hollywood good looks and upsized frontal cortex
But, as long as you're on the subject, his videos are inspiring. I might just have to steal some of those techniques. They depend heavily on Layer Masking but I'm gettin' that down lately.
Somebody has to keep the standards up around here. Got these youngin's breathing down my neck all the time now

So I was messing with my latest pic, and wanted a second opinion (or 2, or 3 :) as to weather or not I tweaked it too far or not.

Hey Skye, maybe we want to lock this thread, so people like me don't make a mistake and post here instead of the new one?

Juthro
do a youtube search for Dave Morrow
then find any of his videos on how-to use the Histogram feature
knowing how to use the histogram will guarantee that you'll get the look you're wanting from the clouds and still gather enough data to show detail in the darker areas of the forest.
it was a revelation to me
I like the clouds as you've shown them. The trees look lonely. You could also poke up the color on the lake surface to mirror the clouds more.
It's hard to tell what your image looks like on your computer at home but from here the clouds look like they picked up some noise in the manipulation. Try denoising. Might make a big difference, might not.
