Hey all,

Recently I purchased a vape off my friend because he upgraded... My plan was to decrease my smoking and replace it with vaping until I felt comfortable enough to go tobacco free. I am almost out of tobacco and tomorrow I will likely be starting my complete abstinence from cigarettes...

A little background on my tobacco use history:
I started smoking cigarettes at 14years old... I'm 24 now and during those ten years (wow that sounds crazy) I have been pretty much a pack a day smoker. I became VERY fond of tobacco and often smoked cigars as well as chewing tobacco regularly and using nasal snuff. I am imo a full on tobacco addict who has tried to quit so many times I have lost count. The closest I came was quitting for 12 days after my tonsillectomy in May of last year out of fear of causing bleeding... I went to the doctor for a check up and immediately got back on the pack a day wagon when I stopped being afraid of bleeding.

I am using the Cf sub ohm battery from Aspire with an Aspire Atlantis tank and I am really enjoying it. I'm using 6mg nicotine level e- liquid and that seems to be satisfying me on this setup. I tried 12 mg but it was hard ony throat and made me a bit anxious... 6mg is where I am finding comfort right now and for the past week I have been smoking 3 cigarettes per day (one on the morning, one after supper and one before bed) and vaping 4-5 times a day.... I had a bit of trouble on the first two days but now I'm pretty comfortable and I feel pretty confident in going "all vape" tomorrow.

I feel comfortable but at the same time I'm terrified haha luckily the vocal vape shop has the nicest most helpful owner I have ever seen and he has a "vape lounge" in his store where he hangs out almost all day with couches and video games and he told me to come by any time and hang out so I think that will be awesome if I'm really freaking out and also i have you awesome people :)

So that's about it lol I wanted to share this to document my progress for anyone else who may be thinking of doing the same thing and to also serve as an area for support and potential bitching if that is ok haha

I already feel ALOT better with the drastic cutting back and I'm excited to get rid of cigarettes totally :) I'll post some pictures of my set up tomorrow and keep you all posted as I go along this journey...

Questions, comments and criticism are all welcome... Thanks for listening,
-Ethno

EDIT: I'm using a cherry-lime flavoured liquid right now and it is amazing... I also have watermelon and berry blast. Any recommendations of flavours to add to my rotation? I'm thinking maybe something menthol as a bit of a pallet cleanser lol

Hey Ethno; just dropping in to show some support; good luck with quitting cigarettes I think it's a very noble ambition! I'm not sure you have access to someone that does acupuncture wherever you are but if you do it might be an idea to visit them for a session. I don't think it involves much I think it just involves stimulating a pressure point that's in your ear, ear lobe. Apparently it helps to reduce craving. Personally I've managed to kick almost every bad habit with a dose or two of 'shrooms, they've made it very clear what is nice to do but even more clear what it is not nice to do (health / body wise).

I am sending good vibes to you ,you got my support ethno.

prof_it_e be nice to see a trip design to help people quit smoking that could be applied to other things we wish to change for our benefit. Hope that makes sense.

 I have known several people who died of lung cancer, including my Mom. An old trip buddy who was one of my best friends got lung cancer at 49 smoking a pack a day. He is only a empty shell of what he was, I didn't even recognize him when I saw him, so bad that his DR. said having sex could kill him.

  I didn't know you were so young, I hope you can quit, I'm 55. You might look into all the negative effects of tobacco cancer , ED, less blood flow to extremities, can destroy eye sight by damaging the tiny capillaries in the eyes leading to blindness..ect

 I hope you make it.

Other than the original cost of your vaporizor, an added incentive is the cost of juice and coils , as compared to the cost of a carton of sticks, will be leaving a good $50 a week in your pocket. *which can be spent on other things I am sure.

Positive vibes to you, and remember, if you fall back and have a cig, you have not failed. You are just re-inforcing your desire to go smoke free by reminding yourself what you don't like about cigarette smoke.

The lounge area where I get my juice also allows you to try different juice flavors. You will find many you think are tasty, and I personally will mix flavors as my mood directs me. I personally like coffee sweet, so combos like coffee and carmel candy corn mix well to my taste buds.

Thank you all for your support!

@prof

I will check into acupuncture more for sure... I would like to try it not just for smoking cessation but for some other things as well. You are right a good dose of shrooms tends to put things into perspective! I think I'll have some at 30 days smoke free as a nice treat ;)

@heirloom

I'm so sorry for your losses my friend... I know people who have lost thier lives from cancer as well and it is so sad to watch. Again sorry for your losses and thank you for your support...

I am only 24, yes, but they say you are only as old as you feel and I often feel that's reversed in my case because I feel a lot older haha

@sky

The start up cost was honestly very low but like I said I did buy from a friend... I am literally saving money already because if I had broke down I would have needed to go buy more tobacco as I was out lol I buy pouches and roll my own so we are looking at $60 right there lol

Alright so here is my first update:

-------DAY 1------

I woke up this morning and immediately had a bit of anxiety upon realizing I had no tobacco... I picked up my vaporizer/e-cig and used that while I made breakfast and did my morning things until I stopped feeling like I needed a cigarette. It worked very well.

Throughout the day I continued to do the same thing... When I felt like I was about to lose it I would sit back and use my vape until I no longer felt the urge to smoke.

I did this probably between 7-8 times today in total.

I have noticed a little more anxiety than usual as well as general grogginess and irritability but those symptoms are greatly reduced when I used my vape.

I am happy with how today went... I'm uncomfortable but I'm doing pretty good and I'm happy to say I have not had a cigarette since last night... Which as of now put me at 24 hours tobacco free!!

Thank you all for the support... We will see what tomorrow brings,

Hang in thar.

I quit so many times, back long before the vape thing.   For me, cold turkey was the only thing that ever worked.  Tapering off was just a low point in a two pack a day habit.  What finally kept me from going back on, even after months or years, was a resolve to never take one puff on a cigarette ever again.

Thanks Alder! I think that will have to be my standpoint too... That sounds tough tho... What about a cigar? Hahaha

----------Day 2---------

Actually much easier than day one... I had some cravings and rough moments but using the vaporizer took the edge right off.

I noticed that my even tho I was still getting some nicotine I would start to think about cigarettes very intensely at some points and get an anxious desperate feeling rising inside me. I did a lot of small tasks around my home and with my fungi to occupy my mind and if I stayed busy I felt really great.

Definately psychological... I will be keeping myself very busy over the next few days and will probably end up starting more mushroom projects than I need or can keep up with haha

Smoke free for 48 hours at this point :)

Thanks for the support guys!

What about a cigar? Hahaha

Hahaha, indeed.  I really came to hate cigarettes.  Hated the smell, the filth of the butts, everything about them.  But even as a kid, going to the ball park to see the Hollywood Stars (Triple A team before the Dodgers came to LA), it seemed there always was some Black man next to us, smoking a cigar, and I loved that smell.  So, while I never really could afford many good cigars, I set myself a limit, and this was years after I quit smoking for good, I would let myself have one when someone had a kid or got married, promoted, whatever.  I never inhaled these.  So I made this limit, one cigar, and only one that I did not buy.  I guess that was my vape.  But I never did it until long after the cravings were over.  Working under that limit, I don't believe I ever felt a craving afterward.  What good would it do, I wasn't going to buy one.  Now, I would refuse one, as I am up against some health issues and have a will to get well.

Definitely psychological...

... and extremely physical.   Quitting was always torture.  It's so hard to understand why I went through it so many times.  Talk about a Darwin Awards candidate!  Maybe I needed to build up my will power and needed the reps.  It always started with that one puff on someone else's cigarette.

Hang in there man.  Kicking the habit is hard but you can do it.  I did :biggrin:  Just keep your vape rig clean.  It will make a difference in the taste and also your thoughts.   :meditate:

Wow...

I have done such a shitty job of logging this journey it's ridiculous lol

I am pleased to say, tho, that I have not touched a cigarette in ONE MONTH, SEVEN DAYS!!!!

I can't believe it myself... I feel amazing. So much better it's crazy.

I will go into more details of anyone is interested but I just wanted to give an update to this failed attempt at keeping a daily journal lol :)
