I got mine too, I thought I was getting a cutting not a friggin' san pedro LOG, the thing is huge!
nice and long too, good stock to grow arms from for grafting

Never planted any B4 so I would appreciate a pointer to a good thread.

No there arent any roots yet. The bottom of the cutting is hard. Where do I start? Rooting Hormone?

sandy soil, water it no more than once every other week
rooting hormone is not needed, cacti do fine without it
after it's rooted go ahead and water it more if you think it will benefit from it
the best tip I can give is to use lots of crushed limestone and don't use straight potting mix even if it's for cacti, they always have too much peat and hold too much moisture causing root rot if you over water

How deep is it supposed to be planted?...or is the cut end supposed to be buried at all? What process is used when planting?

don't plant it until the cut-end callous forms roots

If you use sand use horticultural..I have had pots set up like concrete due to too much fine sand. The roots dont grow and you get disappointed. Once the cut end is calloused you can stick it in the soil, just deep enough to hold itself upright......then leave it alone.
