That is just plain awesome microbe... I like the air flow design, air is forced from the top and mixed then evenly distributed through the filter. Is that correct? Very inspiring...

The blower draws air into the box or plenum. The air remains there and as the pressure builds it starts forcing it out through the path of the least resistance the hepa filter.

Pressure is built up evenly and allowing for the air to exit evenly and at the same rate and speed across the entire face of the filter.

I finally completed this build and it was a pain in the ass. I had to remove the speed controller because it required almost 100% power to achieve laminar flow so i felt it was a waste to even have it. So i will use the speed controller for my diy magnetic stir plates. My next build is a matching mobile working table with storage the into the pastuerizing cabinet and i should be ready to get back in!

Edit: i need to add hardware and locks but its complete enough for me to use the dang thing.

I think it looks like the frame of a 1980's toy robot!

I finished building Big Bertha yesterday.

She don't look pretty, but as long as she works.

All of the wood glue and silicone will fully cured today, so I have to make room for her somewhere.

Your going to love working in front of a hood. It really makes a difference as far as efficiencies are concerned. Its just a pita to work with a lot of product in a sab without having a sore back.

My hood doesn't blow out the flame until it is 2" from the filter. Should I get worry about a fan speed controller to turn it down?

It shouldnt blow out the flame at all but just bend it up to a 45 degree angle. I would stack prefilters first and if you still cant dial it in, then add the speed controller.

Thank you for this. Mine is nothing like yours but I was able to use this thread to build my hood. So far it's just built and flame tested but all looks right. I really appreciate you taking the time to document your builds.

No problem. I love DIY builds and when done correctly you could save hundreds or even thousands of dollars depending on the build.

I appreciate you appreciating my build!

Very nice thread and a lot of attention to detail. Well done. I've been meaning to build one for years but have never done it. When and if I ever do, I will most definitely use this thread as a template.
