A friend of mine sent me a print of Blue Magnolia. I opened it and saw that he had sent one that was rust colored (almost orange). I tried to grow it 2 years ago when the genetics were much wilder, but I couldn't get it to germinate on WBS. Others were having the same issue about getting it to germinate on grain, but was getting it to germinate on agar. So, I was a little reluctant to try it atm, because I wanted to try the Fiji print that he had also sent. But, after his urgings I'm going to try it before the Fiji print. He says that he has it more domesticated now.

The print was used to make 500ml of spore solution. 300ml of which I used to inoculate 71 quarts of WBS that was prepped by using the steep tek.

Now the waiting part.

Wow I got to watch this.

You had better be patient.

BM is a slow one.

I'm expecting 3 weeks just to colonize the jars.

Also; its slow to pin, so I'm figuring another 3 weeks just for that.

I have time. They grow how they grow. I've had slow growing cubensis that have rewarded me in spades, my SA clone has given my butt tons of happiness, it's slow. They do what they want sometimes. Mostly what I want though. ;)

I already have germination.
ATM mycelium is grey, and very light and whispy.

Jars are coming right along.
Myc is pretty much running all over the wbs, but its still light and whispy. I attribute this to good germination of the spores. Plus, I nocced heavy using 5ml per quart jar. Unfortunately the myc is still very light and whispy.
Tomorrow it will be a week since noccing the jars. So then or soon after I will give them a shake. Mostly so I can start weeding out any of the jars that may be dirty. Then, I will just have to sit back and wait for the myc to recover and thicken up.

Looks like they are ready to shake already. And, it hasn't even been a week since they were spores.
Here are some of the 72 jars.

Once I started going through to shake them I noticed that most on the top shelf where the temp is running 80F were almost 100% colonized. So, it looks like I may be spawning next week.

They are all ready to spawn.

Now all I need is the time to spawn them.

They were ready at the 2 week mark. So, the thought that Blue Mag being slow has been debunked. Now lets hope that the notion that they are slow to pin is also a misconception (time will tell).
I'm working a gig atm, so I haven't had time to spawn any, and I've even had substrate in the oven for a couple of days now. In fact it wasn't until just now that I had time to take a couple of pics of the colonized jars. The myc is very white, and the pics don't do it justice under artificial light (it was 4am that I took the pics).

BTW each pic is of different jars.

OK, so I finally got time to spawn my first two tubs. Sub was pasteurized days ago (close to a week), but has set in an unopened oven since.
Sub seemed a little dryer than I usually use, but it still seemed hydrated to about the point of PF mix.
This mix was half verm. The rest was equal parts composted straw, coir that had been hydrated with the drained water from steeping WBS, and Black Kow cpoo.
6 jars were mixed with sub, then a top layer of pure was laid on top. By the time I was done I had used most of a 3 gallon pot of sub. This was done twice to make two tubs.
