Well, I just got cheated out of getting a like in the NYC Bust thread, because someone ran out ... AGAIN!
Therefore, for you people who just can't control yourselves, (Juthro, SPS, you know who I'm talking about) I think we should have an online meeting place for, "Over-Likers Anonymous." You guys just can't stop at a Like or two. You just go berserk, liking here, liking there. Next thing, there y'all are, crying, "I'm sorrrrrry, I ran out of Likes." Well, boo hoo, boys. Man up and stop being so.... so liberal!
Henh.

However I think that if there is a post or thread that is truly wrong that someone would wish to give a negative
Rep or a dislike to that poster then maybe it would be a wise time to use the report post function and let a mod or admin look into the issue. If you truly dislike something it would give a more anonymous way to let some one know and not worry about abuse or retaliation

That's how I have usually dealt with it. Plus, I like that as a buffer, in case I am misreading, possibly taking something wrong, or just generally out to lunch. It puts it to a jury, so to speak.
Something would have to be pretty bad: blatant aggression, trolling, bigotry, fucktardism, shit disturbing, etc., before I would want to go farther than just trying to talk it out reasonably. I would not be easily wanting to publicly brand someone, unless they said something bad about my cat.

Hahahahahahaha....................I'm so freaking guilty of "overlike" I think I'll chair the meeting..............who is making coffee?
See........I "like" a ton of what gets said here and I tend to not respond to things that I disagree with (unless it's mean, blatantly incorrect, or simply poor advice) so I guess my understanding of usage vs functionality needs defined in context.
All I know is that this texting, smart phone, digitally connected world is becoming more and more impersonal and paradoxically disconnected (for various reasons) so wee need to stay on top of our communicative skillsets................. yeah yeah....Hey Martha........Arathu's babbling again!

I am definitely not a fan of the dislike option for many of the same reasons stated above. This is a community that is quite different from the sometimes grey world we all live in. It is an oasis to me. Frankly I believe there are much better ways to handle posts that would be disliked by many people, and those posts that are "disliked" by a few... well, just say it then! Basically to me, a "dislike" is disingenuous. If I ever gave one, I would then have to post to say why I did....so why bother? I doubt I would ever use it even if I had it.
This community is trying to spread more love, understanding, and working together - again, something that is sorely lacking in the outside world if you will. "Disliking something" without having to explain why is something we all get way too much of in the outside world and I would suggest that is the real reason, either consciously or unconsciously, that the dislike system was never implemented.
I would like to see "roll-over" likes. I love the idea of the guild program. Reputation is nice, but it can give one a big head. I don't know about how that would work...
On the other hand, I would like a button on my posts so that all the ladies who are swooning at my words can press it - and it says "Date ME!"

Alder, according to your philosophy of life, your head is an illusion, so no worries! :)

Even if I have no philosophy, one will be assigned to me. My illusory head is not an illusion, or it is an illusion. Dang it! Under the old rep system, the illusory "I" had earned popedom. By moving the forum to this new incarnation, I, and all the other popes, lost our popeness, and all its ring-kissing glory. Anyway, there was never a Top Hat Award, but damn it, I bet one is coming. Me, maybe I want a beanie with a propeller, or maybe my old Davey Crockett coonskin cap. It's surprising what senility will go for.

Cecil the Seasick Sea Serpent would never let me down. We were in tight with Capt. H.K. Huff'n'puff and always on the lookout for Dishonest John.
Here, let me try that one on.
You really want to know how old I am? When I was a tiny kid, Beanie and Cecil were puppets on local TV (KTLA--channel 5--the biggest tower on top of Mt. Wilson). Stan Freberg was Cecil's voice and backbone. I went to the same high school that he did, but he was already doing the show when I was only a toddler. We had TV in 1949 when I was two. My mom made Cecil puppets for me and my brother.
Hey, there are crappy kinescope recordings of it!
From Wikipedia:
Albert Einstein was a fan of the show. On one occasion, the physicist interrupted a high-level conference by announcing, "You will have to excuse me, gentlemen. It's Time for Beany."

H.R. PuffnStuff. Was that ever a thinly veiled children's show about smoking the "Devils Parsley" or what? ha ha! I remember those days on a cold winter Saturday.
