I struggled with where this post should go for a day or two but I figured the general discussion area would be the best place.
Anyway, I would like to share what is grown here in Ohio and sold in the dispensaries. There are 20 licensed cultivators in Ohio. The purpose of this thread is to give pictures,  information and my personal experience  with the strains I list. I plan on making this a solid guide for anyone that is thinking of getting a med card while in Ohio or planning on moving to the state and getting a card.

A lot of the strains I list are grown in other states I'm sure but I am focusing on the Ohio area.
With all that said I present my first strain.

Wonka Bars: Sativa leaning hybrid
Lineage: Garlic Cookies(aka GMO Cookies) x Mint Chocolate Chip
Grown by:  Firelands Scientific

Harvest Date:  13/09/2021

Total THC = 24.55%

Wonka Bars.jpg

This strain is a good solid dependable daytime smoke. Great for depression, PTSD, and anxiety.
I should point out that this stuff packs a bit of a punch and hits right behind the eyes. It could be a bit much for beginners. Maybe it's the phenotype that I ran into but I don't find it to be as energizing as it is known for.

All in all when it comes to Wonka Bars by Firelands Scientific, on a scale of 1  - 5, ( 1 being worst, 5 being best), I'd have to give it a good solid 4.

I grew up in Ohio, so have several friends that share their "legal" weed pics with me. I have yet to see any pristine buds, every single bud pic I have seen from the dispensaries there has been tumbled for Kief. I suppose there are still tons of trichs down in there, but if I were a customer, I would definitely be making my voice heard on that particular point, because though the difference might be minimal, to me it matters. I have not seen any of it that has not been tumbled. Although I understand that from a business angle, the one selling the pristine buds might just get a pretty good share of the market. :)

I'm sure the idea of driving out of state is less than ideal, but if for whatever reason you find yourself in Michigan, most dispensaries here will accept/honor out of state med cards

Took me a few dispos before I found some that provided non tumbled nugs. Colo. is pretty established so you can find it all at crazy different price points. I can pay $7 gram or go to the wealthier part of town and pay $23 a gram.

What's even worse then tumbled is PGR...

I had never even considered this tumbling business before. What would you say are the tell tale signs of such? Do they advertise it and price it accordingly?  If its anything like our legal weed restrictions the drying requirements have made for some bone dust dry product. I wonder if that has any effect on the perception of tumbled or not?

I do know that the legal shit came out really strong here, you get what you pay for in that sense and I thought the higher end buds were like nothing I had ever purchased in all my years of illegal. The tiny bit of weed in a huge container for 40 bucks was the issue for me. Prices have dropped considerably since legalization though so at this point there really is not much benefit in the illegal market anymore. That being said I was no fan of the legal weed when it first came out,  I was one of the guys that resisted the legal market and held on for as long as it made practical sense.

PGR....Mind was just blown, I have noticed those type of buds before and assumed it was what premium bud was all about. I wonder if  that is  why I could never get super tight buds like that. My weed looks like the one on the left.

Sorry to derail ya Baph.

Tumbled nugs, I guess are all round and uniform. Or the few times I def. had it they sold keif on the side for like $1.00.

I mean the black market buds I grew up on were either that long stringy sativa (my fav). Or a denser yet airy nug. If your getting a few tight nugs and it's a bag...
Like I switch between places and I always forget the one uses PGR. The 8th is like 3-4 nugs. Where other places have a way larger amount of nugs.

It's all about that density I dunno how to explain it. If you can't get it to break apart with your fingers (were super dry here too)...

Pretty sure this place I tried today is PGR...

My apologies too baphomet, lets finish up this side rail and move on to Ohio buds. The telltale signs for me is that the hairs and small leaves are compacted together as if the buds were gently squeezed into shape. Never tumbled nugs still have the shape they had on the plant more or less with small leaves and even hairs sort of standing out and not all pressed together.

My friend in Cincinatti gets some very top shelf strains back there, some of the same ones we have here. We also have it all over the price scale, but you can get decent quality and well grown buds for $10 a gram. You can indeed get them pristine as well without paying $23 which is about where the top shelf flavor of the month stuff is at here. I went in a while back and asked for the strongest stuff they had, and got some Alien something cross that was 37%!!!! (Insane numbers!) I liked my wedding cake hands down better. That's a good one to look up Baphomet at your local dispensary, Wedding Cake. Fine skunky goodness.

@Coop, thanks man. I live in one of the big cities as well and all the flower I've got has been top notch so far. I will call out any bs product, I don't care if it was my mama that grew it.
I'm sorry for all y'all's luck but what I'm getting seems pretty damn good. On a side note there is to be a bill to vote on in I believe 2022 to legalize for recreational and medicinal here in Ohio and it has major support.

And with that, here's,

NYC Flo: Hybrid

Lineage:  NYC Chem x Flo
Grown By: Buckeye Relief
Harvested: 7/06/2021
Total THC = 22.85%

NYC Flo.jpg

This strain does carry some of one of it's parents which is NYC Chem. There is a noticeable indica feel to it from it's other parent Flo but I think the NYC Chem sativa side wins out just a bit. It is citrusy, chem, with a nice hint of skunk. I would say this is an all around good strain for pretty much anytime of the day use. It can get you going and help with focus but doesn't go overboard. Breaking this up was a treat. Nice manicured solid buds that had the right cure, fairly sticky on breakup which let loose that NYC Chem terps poke it's head in. This one for sure is a good solid 4.

I grew out FLO, and man that stuff took forever to finish, not sure I ever did finish it properly. It just keeps making more and more flowers. I had buds the size of two litre bottles from a plant about 4 ft tall that I had trained to grow only big thick tops. That one plant took up a LOT of space in my canopy.

Those look like killer buds indeedy

@ Coop, From everything thing I've read about the Flo strain every grower has said they tend to grow an almost continuous flow of flowers when they flower them out which is what the name is known for outside of DJ Flo who had a hand in it's genetics and cultivation. I also have had wedding cake( that you mentioned earlier; which I find very relaxing. I have a child of wedding cake. Which brings me to my next strain.

Larry Cake (aka Ice Cream Cake)   Indica

Lineage: Wedding Cake x Gelato #33

Willie's Reserve grown by Buckeye Relief

Harvested: 8/10/2021
Total THC: 26.2%

Larry Cake a.k.a Ice Cream Cake.jpg

This one is a couch locker. It is great for stressed out muscles, minds and bellies. This strain slaps you around a bit and has a tendency to leave you in the couch a tad dumbfounded and launched into the stratosphere. Top notch strain for pain relief. I also use this strain to help me fall asleep.
A potent child of it's wedding cake parent. This strain is also very good for the appetite as well as every time I toke this strain I get munchies like back when I was a young man toking and learning of landrace strains. This strain is a potent indica with nice flavors of sweetness and some what floral, with like hints of what I'd call a musky vanillaish flavor. This is a top notch indica and I highly recommend this strain for night time use.
This strain easily sits at 4.5

With a very cerebral heady buzz, if your a fan of heavy leaning sativas and enjoy the crisp clear focused and energized creative high that comes with this type of flower I would highly recommended this next strain.

NYC Chem: Sativa Dominant Hybrid 70s / 30i
Lineage: Chemdawg x (Chem 91 x Tres Dawg)
Grown by: Ancient Roots
Total THC: 23.25% THC
NYC Chem.jpg

For me, this stuff packs a punch! This flower has a very chemy, citrusy profile that does also produce hints of earthiness. With two tokes of the bowl you know you're in for a very nice creative and focused buzz. This strain is great for daytime use. When I have it I love to toke a small bowl with my morning tea. Makes for a great day. This strain is great for anxiety, fatigue, depression, and it helps with appetite.
I'm not one that's easily impressed when it comes to flower as there are many great strains, but this strain distinctively stands out to me and has raised up to be one of my newer favorites.
This strain is also one of the parents of NYC Flo.
Overall, I give NYC Chem a more than deserved.

Strain: Sunshine Lime
Grown: Willie's Reserve by Buckeye Relief
Sativa-dominant
Lineage: Sherbet x Lemon Lime
17.71% THC

Sunshine Lime.jpg
SL Label.jpg

This strain has a crisp clear headed high that's not overpowering. Sure to put a smile on any of the meanest of mugs. Sunshine Lime is nice to use throughout the day as it will not leave the user dumbfounded. Citrusy, sweet, fruity, melon, slight earthy flavor. Dark green and purple buds.
I give it,

Schromulan from Willie's Reserve
Sativa-dominant
Lineage: (Romulan x Columbia Gold) x Dosidos
Total THC: 23.4%
This stuff is nice. I mean really nice. I mean really really nice. This is a very heavy sativa laden flower and it's one of those flowers that kinda makes me want to be social. Very heady flower that brings back the flavor and feel of earlier landrace days with the columbian gold being added in the lineage. This strain is very stoney and heady just like a good sativa should be. This strain easily fits right in at the "table of favorites" for me.

It's been some time, but I thought I'd revive this thread. There has been many new strains come and go within the Ohio medical program, but there have been some that have certainly stuck around. Since I posted last in this thread, I found myself diving hardcore into kief and various concentrates. I have really become a big lover of cannabis tea of which I make.
The dispensary I frequent has some of the best deals that can be gotten within the city I live in.
I recently grabbed a 1/2 oz. of some Arnie P. pre-ground for less than 25 bucks that I use strictly for tea and edibles it's tested at 16.5%. I don't think that's to bad a deal. I normally get 5 gram kief buckets for like 35 bucks.

Anyways, one thing I have recently noticed is that more growers are hand trimming instead of tumbling.

With no further ado I bring to the community....
Strawberry Cheesecake from Willie's Reserve.
This strain is a 70/30 indica leaning hybrid of White Widow X Chronic X Cheese.
THC is 23.4%
IMG_20230521_100916902.jpg
strawcheese.jpg

This strain smells every bit like it's name. I find this strain to be a rather smooth smoke.
It will couch lock a mofo and make ya hungry, at least it did to me. This strain is great to wind down from a busy stressful day. If any of ya'll get a chance to get some or grow some, you won't be sorry.
As a side note to anyone interested, this November full legalization is going to be on the ballot in Ohio.

There used to be the most awesome chatroom called True Stoners that I frequented for many years. There was a Baphomet there as well. If that were you, then you probably remember Schroomy, Lrus, Mr Med and a few others. Gypsy Nirvana was a member, Plural of Mongoose too. One time Schroomy came up with an amazing lemony smelling cross from Romulan and Sweet Pink Grapefruit. We all got cuts and we all loved it. It had to have a name, and I think it was Lrus who tossed out the name Schrom. I liked it, so did everyone else, and so Schrom was named. I think Schroomy may have went to jail before it was named, but when he got out he got cuts of his killer cross back with the new name. That cross lived on in my own stable for many years and I was able to grow, harvest and reveg the same plant of it for 7 generations. It just got better and better.

Those were good times back then. Thanks for bringing back that memory Baphomet! Yoshi, it seems like you might have been there too! I know a few of us found one another here after it all got messed up. Med bought the server and didn't pay the bills, so one of the best and longest lived chats I have ever been a part of was gone. I sure hope this place carries on forever. EDIT: Baphomet, we are moving back to the S Side of Columbus this summer. Maybe we can meet up at Legend Valley or something.
