Hi MN
Merry Christmas to you to ! I'm wondering if its your camera that makes the PF jar contents look "orangey". Are you using ground brown rice & verm?

hello hyphaenation
Yes, I'm using ground brown rice and verm. They look more orangey because they're so wet, I think. I do a little post processing in photoshop, too, so I may have taken the levels too low to give more color to the image where there isn't so much. I up'd the contrast so you can see the details more clearly.

It can be tricky to get PF tek moisture right. It seems good but then its not fluffy , but heavy and over-damp. One good thing to do is take note of how much water you use each time. Use a set amount of cupage for BRF and verm and when you get the recipe just right you'll know forever on know how much water to add.

This is the first time I ever had a problem with the moisture level in my brf jars. I think what happened was, I did it while I was high. *rme* :rasta: The tek I always used was only brf and water but with no verm mixed in. The one I followed this time wasn't the one I normally used and it mixed verm in with the brf and water. I had already dumped the water and brf in before I realized I was supposed to mix in the verm with it. I didn't and this is what I came out with. Do you usually mix verm in with the brf and water?
I'm hoping to graduate to some grain teks now, anyway... I bought plenty of popcorn and wbs... so it's onward and upward from here! :headbang:

I bought so much popcorn at one point that I just found a 1/2 bag (25 lbs) that was tucked away ... and I was thinking dang i'm out of grains :rasta:
WBS is great. Hopefully santa brings a bag. I have found though , almost every time that the bigger the jar the higher the chance of wetspot later. With WBS there is a shaking regime to help stop clumping and wetpots but with larger jars I keep getting it.
Best advice with either popcorn or WBS is to wash it well , soak it, rinse well and most importantly drain it very well. This means drained until no drips at all. By doing this and also adding a verm layer to the bottom of all jars you can avoid getting to much moisture.
I hope you find a nice BRF recipe that works for you !
Best of luck MN

I've been playing around with birdseed quite a lot and this jar accidentally got a bit too much :mistrust: ... I did several like this, but none others with this much in them... I just tossed some seed in there, then some water and PC'd. This one has this bizarre fuzzy mycelium growing on the top of the tyvek lid of the jar. I used GT LQ and the other jars are taking off as well, but none of them had this outer growth. I didn't know it could grow through the tyvek. Never seen anything like it, just wanted to share.
btw... who won the Christmas avatar contest?
