Alright Everyone, Cooler weather will be here Soon and that means EDIBLE Blocks.  I ordered up some LC syringes I haven't played with before, starting with Portobello's.  Not a hard mushroom to get, but I don't want store bought when I can grow my own.  Sounds like these like Manure/Straw which I have experience in so shouldn't be an issue.  Always exciting going for it with something you haven't Grown.

Next is Bears Head or Hericium Americanum, I've grown Coralloides and Erinaceous so shouldn't be an issue with this new variation.

I also grabbed a Beech Mushroom syringe, looks interesting and different, figured WHY not.

I don't know much about Cordy's at this point, I did a little bit of research and they seem to like a different substrate.  I need to do more digging on this one.

I picked up a different variation of Shiitake(S75), the one I current have(3782) on AGAR is pretty slow to Colonize, almost 3 Months(to turn completely brown).  Great Fruiter the

3782 though, over 2lbs per 5ish pound block First flush.  I see why most don't go for a 2nd flush, but you can and I have... they won't be as Meaty... sort of thinner fruits So to speak.

Definitely worth a second flush for a Home Grower, the Pros are ONE and DONE.  Don't attempt a 3rd, you will start to see green spots here and there.  Outside time or Discard.

So those are the new ones I'm looking forward to, but I'm going to get the Shiitakes and Maitakes going First since they sit on a shelf for a long time to Colonize and Brown Up.  I'll be doing a batch of Oats this Weekend and get the two Shiitake variations going and the Maitake.  I need to do some Agar work this weekend as well, the FUN(gi) NEVER Stops.

Alright guys last night I did a batch of Oats and started the LONG blocks... two Shiitakes, (the new S75 is suppose to be MUCH faster than the 3782), Maitake, Portobellos, and a Bears Head.  These are my new toys aside from the 3782 Shiitake... I dropped a nice Wedge of Agar in a jar.  All the others are LC's from a trusted Source... Not one single issue with any of his cultures.  Mush Luv for the Quality work, I appreciate it and the trust is SO worth it.

Getting ready to be Cooked

I normally just do my wood lover blocks(basically hwfp and Rice Bran Supplement), but I have some manure and straw and I've always wanted a crack at some Agaricus Bisporus.  A friend of mine has been asking me to grow some so I'm excited for something UP in the AIR at this moment.  Builds Excitement!

What's good ya'll... closing in on Another Friday... saw some growth on the jars last night and this morning.  All are jumping off on to grain, the AGAR wedge is starting to really kick in so should colonize fine and looks clean.  The Portobello mycelium has a brownish tinge to it, kind of cool(Shiitake can have a brownish hue as well) and I'm excited for NEW fruits that I've never grown.  One of my favorite mycelium to view is LM or any Hericum, very string like mycelium in the beginning and can be deceiving knowing when it's fully colonized(Wispy).  Let's GO Bears Head.

Happy Friday All.. not much to report on the Edible jars, all jars are growing and look healthy.  The Portobello's showed first, seems to be a pretty fast culture thus far.  The Bears head is ripping through the Oats quickly as well, solid LC syringes.  The AGAR wedge took

a little longer to jump off to grain, but it's doing it's thing.  Have a Great Weekend Everyone.   :hookah:

The Ports are just ripping through the Oats, I shook them last night, and they are already recovered and moving quickly.  This may be the fasted edible variety I have played with thus far.  I've had turkey tail spawn done in 7-8 days, I'm at 4 complete and beginning of Day 5 and it's going to be 6 full days... or just as fast as TT at 7.

I shook up the Maitake this morning, right on schedule for HOTW.

The new Shiitake isn't quite ready for a shake, but close, maybe tonight or tomorrow morning.

The Bears Head isn't ready either for a mix up, guessing tomorrow morning as well.

All jars look great and moving along.  I had to toss the Shiitake Agar Jar, contaminated and I'll have

to clean up the Culture(the plate was dirty as well).  I didn't seal up the plate well enough I think... Owell...

work to do or I can always go back from a print(shouldn't need to).

Mornin' Folks... just checked on the jars and did a light tumble of the Bears Head and Shiitake S75.

The Portobello's will be done tomorrow which will be 6 full days of colonization and the beginning of Day 7.  Wow, they are FAST.

The Maitake is just recovering from the mix up yesterday and starting to grow again.  Guessing 3 days or so and will be finished.  All is well

and hopefully... ENDS well.   :meditate:

All the jars are recovering nice and the Portobello's are ready whenever I am.  The Shiitake is really taking off now after the shake, The Maitake is close to being done, and the wispy Bears Heads is hiding on me, then will just pop up out of nowhere.  Hericium varieties are deceiving and then all of a sudden it's colonized and it surprises you.  String like mycelium in the beginning, always a pleasure to try a new one.

Did another Round of Oats, I'll shoot up another Maitake and Shiitake for some staggered blocks for later this year.  I need to get some AGAR work done and get some others rolling, but it's still early for Colder species Winter growing.  I'll be patient and have enough going on Anyway(for now).

Hey All, the Shiitake, Maitake, and Bears Head spawn has been ready to Go for a few days now and just waiting on me.  I'm going to sterilize some blocks tomorrow night and I haven't in awhile so I'm really excited.  I don't know what it is, but blocks just Do it for me.

I also spawned the Portobellos to Manure/Straw/Verm/Gypsum combination(Little bit of Coco).  Honestly, I didn't like the smell of the Port jar, but it's doing well so maybe it was just me being on Alert.  Spawned 3 Days Ago and looks healthy(checked it today).

I also had one Oat jar that I didn't like, shot it up with some Turkey Tail since it's Fast and probably won't matter.  Not sure how a few of the Oats went a little Mushy, they were dried(pre sterilization) all the way.  I did notice though, that one of my strainers SUCKS, my mesh strainer dry's them perfectly(and faster) and I'm going to buy another one of that style.  My plastic strainer has little slits, and you have to make sure those bottom seeds are completely dry.  I'm over it, The mesh strainer is the Ticket.

Alright folks, WE cookin' now, I have 4 blocks cooling as I type this and I'll NOC them up tonight.  They will take about 8 hours to cool down, I'll get to them started around 9(ish) tonight so they will be closer to 10 hours and should be Perfect.  I'm going to do 2 Shiitake S75's and the Maitake.  I need to do my Bears Head, it's been ready for many days now(fully colonized in 8ish days closer to 9).  The Turkey Tail is fast so I may just wait so I can do two of each, I haven't decided yet, I could probably squeeze 4 blocks out of 1 Oat jar, I like two blocks per jar, it's FAST with a thoroughly mixed Bag.

I'm out of LIKES as usual... What's new.  @Arathu... I'm diggin' your thread friend, and I just spawned my Maitake and Shiitake Blocks last night.  I'd be happy with half of the HEN you have, Killin' Fungus Fam.

The Turkey Tail spawn will be ready in a Day to a Day and a half(Fast Colonizer, SLOW fruiter) so I'm going to wait to spawn the Bears Head at the same time.  I like running 4 blocks at a time, almost seems like a waste doing just two(Not that it isn't worth it and I could go 7 pounders which I have done, but can only fit two in my small 16Qt Kettle.

My Kettle:

16Qt Presto Bobber Only Style:

Data:  I put 5 jar rings on the bottom and 4 more on top of those 5 to raise the trivet off of the bottom and give me more room to add Water since it's a small kettle and Blocks run 2.5 hours(I almost ran it out of water ONE time out of Many, but that's all it takes, and the Hot steam weakened the Unicorn Bag, as I was mixing the Spawn, popped a couple of holes in the bag, I'm always ready for something to happen so I duck taped the holes and the Reishi Spawn grew Around it NO problem).  The rings aren't

necessary for sterilizing Oats, but I don't take them out either.   I can fit 7 quart jars Perfectly.  She's my Workhorse and has been great over the years(Many Cycles and haven't changed any gaskets or plugs).  I want an All in One AA that I can run Outside in my Garage... YUP One day it will Happen.  Spawn ON you Fungus Fans.

Just a quick update, the Turkey Tail is ready to go and the Bears Head spawn is on Stand by.

The 4 bags I inoculated the other night are just starting to show some white here and there so recovery is happening and about to really kick into Gear.  They will be in a cabinet just colonizing away for quite awhile so SLOW going.  I'll get the Turkey Tail and Bears Head done hopefully tomorrow night, and those are fast to get to fruiting.  Excited for a new Hericium, I'll get the Erinaceus going when I get a BIG round of Agar work finished.  Still dragging my feet, but time hasn't been my friend lately with life and ALL my projects.  I'll get it done soon though.  Cultivate On Compadres

How WE all doing this Morning.  I have 4 new blocks added to the party, 2 Turkey T's, and 2 Bears Head.  The Turkey Tail is already jumping off the grain and this morning is One full day.  The Bears head isn't quite showing, but no issues, TT just explodes through any spawn or substrate.

The Maitake's and Shiitake Blocks are really starting to Kick into gear now.

I scrapped the Portobello project, something just didn't seem right and OUTside She Goes.

Hey All, just an update on the block situation, I also have another jar of Shiitake spawn ready for a few blocks.  The other Maitake jar just stalled out after shaking, didn't like it and smelled of cooked oats.  I'm not used to losing edible spawn, everything else from the same batch had or has no issues, but it's the Game sometimes.  Alright, I'm really liking this new shiitake, it's WAY faster than my older different culture.  Enjoy!

Alright guys and certainly gals... back at it again Cooker just a Rockin' Out.  It's a shame the Maitake didn't make it, I prefer to do 4 blocks at a time(full capacity), but the Shiitake is ready and I have time today since it's Windy and no work  so it's a Get IT done situation.  I'm going to do another 2 blocks of Maitake soon, and I also picked up a Pink Oyster(new) and another Reishi culture since I ruined the Agar plate letting it dry out too much, also looked horrific since it wasn't protected in the fridge well enough I suppose(ton of plates and only this one looked bad so it is what it is).  I grabbed a heat tolerant LM as well, so I can grow LM whenever I want, supposedly this sucker has been fruited high 90's to low 100's.  The tent in the summer maybe hits 80 or 81 on a scorching day so no issue there, but an Outdoor LM project... sounds inviting.  I also picked up a Wine Cap I've been wanting to get going(just didn't happen last year), but those are for future endeavors, same with the Beech Mushroom I bought a month ago, waiting for colder weather, tent hit 68 degrees this morning, Fall is definitely here.

I’m on my last master slant for my wine cap and no fruits yet. Did see myc in the bed this morning!

Lions mane has fruited outside for me in hot weather. No specific strain. does discolor a bit more I’d say

Keep it up!
