if you have access to natural daylight(actual sun or "natural daylight" bulbs?) for pinning, what is the advantage of having the leds for directional light instead of continuing the daylight? other than looking cool ;)

haha, good question. to clarify, natural daylight is used for pinning. the led's are used for direction. this means, that the lights are used so the fruits get taller by having the light direction upwards. when the natural daylight is used for pinning, the light is only enough light coming through the blinds. this is about 10% of actual light coming into the room and its from a window. this would thus make most of the fruits point that direction or sideways. for about 6 hours a day the leds are in use. this kinda makes the fruits point upwards or grow towards that light. so idea is to get taller fruits.

in the past ive used a vitalight. i don't think they make these anymore but it was the bulb suggested by the mushroom cultivator in stamets lighting section. from what i remember, the vitalight was high in the blue spectrum but i would have to read it out of the book for reference. don't have it in front of me atm. it worked fine but im sure just using flourescents would work or whatever type of lighting you want. you just dont' want an overabundance of light penetrating outside of the cabinet. these led lights are very subtle and when your in the room when its 100% dark. you can't even see the light coming out of the chamber.:headbang:

oh, i see. so if someone had a big fluorescent "daylight" bulb AND some leds. would the best way to have the fluo to start pinning then once the pin set is established, switch over to the leds for directional because the 20watt fluo might be an overabundance of light?or would you just switch the fluo to less than 12hrs on when pinning starts? this assumes you don't care about how subtle the light is, you only care about what's best for the mushies.

its cool. ill answer the question wherever it is. if you want whats best for the mushies. natural daylight seems to always be the best. so giving it 4 hours of light from the window a day doesn't hurt. you could use whatever works for you. you can run lines inside these cabinets. you may have to make the holes in the back a bit bigger to force the plugs through but it should work. 12 on 12 off always works well. but its not needed. just a tad bit of light for cubies a day will work fine.

ok, then i think swim will stick to his fluo "daylight" 6500K, it's just that those leds are so cool looking :D

chrisnh. you can use those floro's easily. it should work for you. you can use those for pinning and fruiting it doesn't matter. once the pins have developed and fruiting begins. the only thing you need light for is direction.

freakin took more than a week to get like this. slowest lc ever. maybe its contamed. but from the picture it actually does look that way but its deceiving. the actual lc looks excellent and clear and fluffy. the pic is weird.

peu is the fastest. the ape was real slow but now its in 2nd place and the regular pe didn't do shit with lc's. the burma is about in 3rd place with some growth but not much. and the jar was really dirty so there is crap floating in the lc. may just toss this out. but what the hell, suck it up in syringe. test it in one jar can't hurt.

here are some 3rd flushers grown outdoor under plants. the subs look healthy but were tossed outside. some nice looking natural fruits popped up a day or two later. the coolest part, is that the drying fruits are almost blue black now. wow!

big difference. these guys have bluish rings around the edges of the caps and seem to be a bit lighter upon maturation. either way, they look great. and maybe a hose will be used to hose down that area under the plants. its a shady spot that collects alot of moisture. has a small microclimate. all the subs were broken into 6" pieces and piled randomely all over eachother. this makes the fruits fruit underneath the subs. and pop up from the sides. so the tops of the subs are dry. but it fruits underneath with little moisture after 2 days hot heat. but if it rains. these guys will explode. there are still pins everywhere. natures beauty!

Once the drill bit gets through the plastic bin you put the drill in reverse. That prevents the 'grab' and still cuts through. Kinda like putting the blades in backwards when using miter and skill saw while cutting tin.
